Some more big news today:
Here’s the statement from the DSCC:
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued the following endorsement of former State Representative Paulette Jordan in the Idaho U.S. Senate race:
“Paulette Jordan is an inspirational leader dedicated to serving her community and her state. She is not afraid to take on the tough fights, which is how she unseated a Republican incumbent to represent her community in the Idaho state legislature. In Washington, Paulette will stand up to the special interests, protect our public lands and our environment for generations to come, and expand access to high-quality and affordable health care for Idahoans. We’re proud to support Paulette in her campaign to become Idaho’s first female U.S. Senator and the country’s first Native American U.S. Senator.”
Two weeks ago, Jordan’s campaign picked up another big endorsement:
The progressive group Democracy for America will back Democrat Paulette Jordan’s long-shot bid to unseat Sen. James Risch (R-Idaho).
Idaho is a deep-red state and Risch won reelection by 30 points there in 2014.
But progressives believe they have a rising star in Jordan, who in 2018 became the first Native American woman to be a major party nominee for governor in U.S. history. Jordan would be the first Native American woman elected to the Senate if she wins.
It’s very encouraging news because Jordan may have a winning issue to hit U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R. ID) with:
Here we go again: More talk about what the president knew and when he knew it in relation to news reports saying that Russia offered bounties to militants in Afghanistan for the killing of U.S. soldiers.
This time, President Donald Trump’s political fate will be in the hands of American voters as opposed to the political theater in Washington.
There’s little mystery about where Idaho will stand. Republican presidential candidates have carried the Gem State easily since 1964, and it’s a good guess that Trump will keep that streak going. But that’s not stopping former Democratic state Rep. Paulette Jordan from making some noise on the issue in her bid to unseat Republican Sen. Jim Risch.
Jordan has had some harsh words for Risch:
“As Chair of Senate Foreign Relations and a member of the Intelligence Committee, Jim Risch should first tell all Idahoans, including the 118,000 Idaho veterans, precisely what he knows about Russian bounties on our troops. He continues to sleep on the job. He should be digging into this matter, holding hearings, but instead he chooses to be a sheep for the White House. His role and constitutional responsibility is oversight and investigation to determine the dangers faced by our brave men and women in uniform. He lacks the independence and moral leadership expected of our elected officials in being a mouthpiece for the White House.”
Of course Risch has been playing “hear no evil, see no evil”:
Reports that Russia offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan are "grossly inaccurate," according to the chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“As a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I’ve reviewed all materials relevant to the news reports about the alleged Russian bounty program and can state that the reporting is grossly inaccurate," U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, said Wednesday. "We all know that Putin’s Russia has been relentless in its desire to cause harm to the U.S., but the claims made in these stories are not backed up by the facts."
Risch spokeswoman Marty Cozza said she couldn't elaborate on Risch's statement or say definitively whether the bounties existed "because of the classified nature of the information."
