All I want to say is the homepage is an excellent example of design overpowering content. Those that design, like to design. Unfortunately, it can crowd out the content. It’s like rummaging through a thrift store to find what you want. I stopped reading the New York Times Sunday Magazine some years ago when they “redesigned” it. There were issues where I couldn’t even find the table of contents and it was nearly impossible to distinguish between the advertisements and the articles. The new dailykos homepage is not that bad, but bad enough. Certainly, it seems a bit hard telling the ads from the stories, but maybe that works because the ads get more clicks (by accident) and more money for the site.
