National and state Democrats, and Daily Kos, have written off CA-01 (R+11) as unwinnable. But as *rump’s unpopularity grows almost as quickly as the number of new COVID-19 cases, his GOP Congressional pals are feeling similar slumping of support. A primary *rump supporter is Rep. Doug LaMalfa (affectionately referred to by some in this area as “LaBarfa”), who repeatedly votes against the best interests of the low income people of his district (many of whom repeatedly vote him to stay in office) while voting to pad the bank accounts of himself and his rice “farmer” family with agricultural subsidies. Towing the GOP line, he has voted to repeal the ACA (despite his many constituents needing medical coverage) and destroy environmental rules (in an area that depends on eco-tourism.)
Dem. Audrey Denney first challenged LaMalfa in 2018, and although beating him in Butte County (two days before the disastrous Camp Fire here), lost to him in the overwhelmingly red other parts of CA-01. But now with some name recognition, Audrey is making inroads to GOP numbers, gaining on LaMalfa.
New polling data released by the Audrey Denney for Congress campaign and collected by reputable national polling firm Lake Research Partners shows a path to victory for Audrey Denney (D-Chico) in the race against Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) for California’s 1st Congressional District.
After Denney narrowed the incumbent congressman's typical 20% victories to 9% in the 2018 election, she has narrowed the margin even further. Despite LaMalfa being far better known than Denney, she trails by just five points down (41% to 46%) on the initial ballot but actually leads by a margin of 48% to 43% among voters who are familiar with both candidates. Additional information summarizing the candidates’ platforms narrows the gap further, resulting in a dead heat 47% to 47%. With yet more information on both candidates, Denney seizes the lead with 50% of the vote and an +8-point lead on the final ballot. audreyforcongress.com/...
