Jesus in the Desert, Updated to this Moment
When Jesus was in the desert
The Devil left his golf course
And came to tempt him.
I have removed regulations for better profit
So believe me when I say,
“The food I set before you is the best.”
But Jesus continued his fast,
Ignoring the sweetness of the corn syrup
And the reek of the Roundup
In the processed food presented,
And said,
“A healthy body comes from healthy food,
“Grown sustainably.”
Satan took Jesus to a rally
And said, “Go unmasked,
“No disease can harm you.”
But Jesus kept on his mask
And removed himself
A safe distance from the crowd.
“I will not ignore Science,
“Which my Father created,
“So we could better understand
“This world.”
Then from the top of the White House,
Satan showed him all the wealth
And power to control people that could be his,
If Jesus would but sign a slip of paper
Vowing loyalty only to the Devil.
To which Jesus replied,
“Yours is the kingdom of corruption,
“Yet no man is above the law,
“Get thee hence, Satan,” Jesus commanded.
And the Devil went back to his golfing
To await his own time of trial.
And Jesus then went down into the city,
Sought out his polling place
And cast his vote.
