I do not trust the puppy-love apologies and quick calls for peace coming from the right. I'm having real trouble with walk-backs from the likes of Ted Cruz or people now quietly erasing Facebook posts that initially supported the riots, as if they suddenly found a new religion of inclusion and tolerance....And then I read this in the New York Times this morning as it described this week’s high-powered Republican planning convention :
"But despite this week's events, Trump retains strong support within the party establishment, including at the meeting that began Wednesday. Trump did not attend the winter meeting, but phoned in during a THURSDAY (my emphasis) breakfast for about a minute. Attendees said he received enthusiastic applause."
I want actions, not words! I want Republicans who support and vote for inclusion not exclusion, who support and vote for change not stasis, whose little Christian lapel pins are not necessary because their lives are indelibly stamped with love of others, or at least the regular but imperfect attempt at such love that is more emblematically human.
