I wrote the following comment in a very important diary the other day, about the banning of trans literature.
I occasionally write about Bi and Gay issues, but I feel not enough on transsexuals' issues.
I do not feel the need to add anything to my original comment, other than to say we, as Gay, bi, and lesbian CIS folks need to go out of our way to add transgender people to our advancements.
I for one know the onus is on me to do a better job. I came out in high school in the Reagan administration, it was a “big deal” to some and I was even on the local ABC station about it, I donated money and time to ACT-UP having lost way too many friends and ex-lovers to the “gay disease” and Reagan and his ilk’s inaction to it. I also donated to Queer Nation and wore their sweat and T shirts…. so for many years I was a “radical” but then time passed me by.
I get confused by all the new letters and gender identities, not because they do not exist but because I am ignorant and my brain problems have a hard time keeping track of what is new in sexual identity.
All I do know is that I would welcome dating a transgender male or a questioning person.if one were so blind and silly enough to be attracted to me, And that I would fight to the death if anyone did not allow a person to express who they are. So although I might not understand uses of They, Them, etc., I need to better my own learning. We need more people to learn and join our cause, and give time for us old fuddy duddy Bi men to learn tour new lessons.
