Friday afternoon, as I was coming back from an errand, I saw, right outside our front door,
a stray chicken.
I found out, on Saturday, that some of our neighbors had seen the chicken roaming around our apartment complex, for two weeks.
But this was the first time I saw her, and I was truly surprised.
Now, for the last year or so, my wife and I had been helping raise chickens, six of them, at the home we were then located at, with my wife’s brother, his wife, and three children.
And six chickens.
But, as of August 20th, my wife and I had moved out, into our own little one bedroom apartment.
So, we are no strangers to chickens, and, because of our recent experience, we could tell that the chicken was a hen, and younger than six months, not yet laying eggs.
We called my wife’s brother, and he said he would come and get the chicken, to add her to his group of nice, egg laying, livestock.
My wife suggested I stay outside, to keep the hen close by, by giving her food and water.
The little hen and I had a grand time, for hours.
A large tabby cat came around, and the hen fluttered into a large shrub, where she stayed for the last few hours, until my brother-in-law and his wife finally came by.
He tried to get her from her perch, but she got away, and we had to act like Rocky Balboa, catching the chicken. She fluttered up into the shrub again, and we finally nabbed her.
They put her in a nice large wire dog cage, that was sitting on their trailer, latched the door, and drove away.
Our sister-in-law called and asked my wife for a name for the chicken. Tonia said, Brenda.
So, there is the nice story of Brenda, the stray chicken.
Keeping chickens is a prepper thing, so, that is enough of a diary for this week.
Feel free, to add great prepper ideas, in the comments, as many folks often do.
Sometimes, the comment thread is better than the diary.
