This longish post is what we should be doing as a nation. Let our representatives know how we feel. I sent my senators a message about fixing the problems in infrastructure in the country. At the bottom I got the canned response. And then I responded to it. I would hope everyone would let our reps know our views. They can't represent us if they don't know what we care about. That is, if they even listen to someone without money in their pocket. And while they think that having money can buy them election there are the odd times when money did not work such as in the last presidential election. Remember, if you just get a canned response, then come back at it. Their staff will see it and maybe we’ll get enough ‘votes’ for them to think twice. But call them out. Don’t be part of that silent majority. Blog entries are fine to stir us up, but what do they achieve. We need to voice our protests not as an angry mob storming the capital but as citizens leaning on our reps.
Some of my views maybe different or offensive to those who read this blog entry. I don’t mind or really don’t care. These are my views.
At the top is my reply at the bottom is the senator's response.

Don’t speak to me of partisan politics and budgets after the GOP handed out a tax cut that meant nothing and helped no one but those who could give you money.
Don’t speak to me of what you have done for the country when the GOP has kicked the ball down the road and about 1 in 6 bridges in this country are unsafe because spending on that won’t get donor money.
Don’t speak to me of welfare programs when its your policies that should tilt the table away from the rich and companies likes exxon mobile (of which I have stock in) who don’t pay any taxes on quarterly profits of billions of dollars. How was that done? A lot of donor and special interest money tossed about. President HW Bush raised taxes after promising he wouldn’t. His word wasn’t as important as the budget, deficit and his country. He put his career behind that of the needs of America. The GOP spends money like water and causes shutdowns only when they are NOT in power.
We see right through you.
You support pro-life but education stinks, mental health is ignored causing homelessness and crime, and if mental health was treated, our jails would be half as full and our society and productivity would be greatly enhanced. Those people then becoming productive increases tax revenues which are then squandered on 9 carrier groups which could be six instead. I guess you get a lot of money from those private prisons which are run like gulags and zoos.
If you really cared about crime then instead of wasting blood and treasure on middle east politics then we would engage our military against the drug cartels attacking our country with chemical warfare. Send in the helicopters, blow up the cartels after the CIA, NSA and FBI point out the targets. If someone fills the void, then they get blown up. Finally someone learns that being in that business means putting your life on the line. HOWEVER, many people who can’t afford or get mental health care that would be a big problem if we don’t fix mental health care because most of these people doing drugs (as well as alcoholics) are self-medicating. If they are put well or can manage their conditions, then they can get jobs, which increases demand, and then creates more jobs and that results in tax revenues which you can either hand out to your buddies or do the right thing.
And for the record and I don’t care who knows it I have anxiety, depression and some bipolar. If I didn’t have the resources I have now, I would be committing crime to self medicate, homeless or dead from suicide.
You tell me how that is pro-life. Or how in the greatest country on earth we have poor people who have no chance to get out of the slums, unlike you and 99% of congress who were not born in those communities, leaves those people to rot.
You have forgotten your obligation for not only fiscal responsibility but to offer the average American the path so they can rise to the best of their abilities.
It is easy to talk about a balanced budget amendment so you will sound like a good guy but do nothing. In fact there is no better bill in congress that you can support that you know will not pass so you can put a nice mask on for the public. How do I know that? Hundreds of votes to end the Affordable Care Act when instead you could have been working to fine tune it.
Do that and end immigration problems at the border. If you are going to do nation building then why are we messing about across the world when we could fix that problem here, UNLESS, you are using the corrupt crap governments to force people out making dangerous trips that kill many who know they will die anyway so have no other choice for advantage. How about we force out the corruption there or support and protect NGOs such that with our military escorts so supplies for the people get to the people rather than stolen by war lords.
How come I can see these obvious problems and your party can’t.
Try doing your job rather than talking in platitudes that are full of the sound and fury of the idiot meaning nothing. Put your country first
If you care going to claim something is a problem in your missives then by God identify at least a few of them and then offer your constituents the chance to vote on those issues via a poll. But you can’t do that because it would piss off your loyal donors who see the US Budget as their visa gold card.
But why bother. If you can snow people with your pro-birth agenda to come out as a saint while throwing everyone else under the bus to keep support from the Pharisees who then influence their uneducated followers who are given half truths via the media that supports you for their own game, then why bother.
You have my vote on the issue you responded to.
But, I will give you credit for responding when Senator Cruz ignores everything and never replies, even if it just a general form letter from each topic on your site.
Alred actively seeks our views so he knows what issues are important to him. In other words Alred listens and you don’t, that is, unless I am a PAC donor. And PACs just hide the money trail in our system of legalized bribery.
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget resolution (S.Con.Res.14). I appreciate having the benefit of your comments.
The FY2022 budget resolution, which passed the Senate on August 11, 2021, contains a wish list of partisan priorities including expanding welfare programs, job-killing tax hikes on small businesses and individuals across the country. Instead of providing fiscal discipline, this budget amounts to a reckless tax-and-spending spree that will unlock a massive expansion of the federal government. It will also drive up consumer prices, undermine wages earned by hard-working taxpayers, and adds trillions to the federal debt over the next ten years. Because this budget jeopardizes future economic growth and the financial well-being of millions of Americans, I voted against it.
I have consistently supported legislation which would add an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to require the federal government to balance its budget each year. In addition, a Balanced Budget Amendment would make it more difficult for the federal government to continue its reckless spending by requiring a two-thirds vote of the U.S. House and Senate before increasing taxes or the debt limit. Families across Texas have to balance their budgets and make tough choices to live within their means. There is no reason the federal government should operate any differently.
I appreciate having the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States Senate, and you may be certain that I will keep your concerns in mind. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.
