Dear BBC,
I am writing you in response to the recent article "We're being pressured into sex by some trans women" which contains a massive number of inaccuracies and outright falsehoods that the writer not only failed to investigate but simply uncritically platformed.
This article featured a study/survey with 80 respondents, 50% of whom claimed they'd been pressured by a trans woman for sex. The article made no mention of the fact that that online poll was conducted by an anti trans group and that the respondent pool was composed of anti trans individuals. There was not a single scrap of evidence shown that this (trans women somehow pressuring lesbians to have sex with them or else be labeled transphobic) is some sort of systemic, or even isolated issue.
The closest thing to anecdotal evidence aside from the specious poll was a photo of a sticker that said "genital preferences are transphobic" which was sandwiched in between two "adult human female" stickers. The phrase "Adult Human Female" is an anti trans dogwhistle used by anti trans groups to signal that they don't believe trans women are women. The most cursory of checks online would show that a transphobic mumsnet user admitted to creating and putting up the supposedly pro trans sticker about genital preferences being transphobic, in order to stir anti trans sentiment and make the trans community look bad.
Your form response to complaints about this article have stated that you believed this matter was worthy of investigation, and yet your reporter did no investigating whatsoever, she instead simply took everything anti trans groups and "gender critical" individuals said at face value.
The closest the trans community got to a response in this article was that Debbie Hayton was quoted in it. And yes, Hayton is trans, she also aligns herself with anti trans groups and is their token spokesperson. Quoting Debbie Hayton and pretending that she is some sort of spokesperson for the trans community is misrepresentation of the grossest sort. Hayton is on record allowing herself to be abused and misgendered by her supposed "allies", as well as herself making numerous hateful statements about the trans community as a whole. If you had written an article claiming the black community as a whole supports Donald Trump and then used quotes from Candace Owen as your "representativeof the black community" you would be laughed out of the room, using Hayton as your representative for the trans community is just as disingenuous.
In conclusion, this article was anti trans propaganda without a scrap of proof that your news organization platformed without even a cursory glance to see if any of it was remotely true. You have caused immeasurable amounts of damage to the trans community with your hyperbolic fear mongering. In short, stop lying about us, you're going to get trans people killed.
