Things to be thankful for in the world of anti-Koch/anti-Trump activism in Kansas, elections division:
For me, it seems it’s going to be a hard-candy Thanksgiving before a hard-candy Christmas. I DO thank the Lord for Governor Kelly and Lieutenant Governor Toland, State Treasurer Rogers, Congresswoman Davids, the FOUR Democrats on the State Board of Education, the Democrats in the State Senate, the Democrats in the State House, and for the Democrats in scattered county and city offices. Oh … and God Bless the President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden. As well as Vice President Harris.
Most of all, I thank the Lord for the opportunity to try to land some fists in November, 2022, although—as to activism right now— I am in a kind of a chrysalis as reapportionment pends. A frightening, hard-candy (Republican-controlled) chrysalis.
In the past, I have tended to try to be helpful where a Democrat has tried to take an office away from the GOP. But although I do note with enthusiasm Mayor Holland’s challenge to Sen. Macaroon and counselor Mann’s challenge to “I used to be a contender” Kobach for Attorney General, I haven’t yet sent a check.
That said, I am deeply thankful for the only 2022 candidate to whom I HAVE sent a check: Patrick Schmidt. Schmidt is grinding out a very, very worthy campaign in Kansas’ 2nd Congressional District (whatever that should become). As “grim, determined indolent,” I wrote about him at kos in July. Please hear me: Schmidt holds back nothing. He relentlessly continues to make every right move.
Please check out that July kos diary.
You might find it odd that I have not posted Schmidt’s visage yet. Aside my diaries, fInd only hard candy and Schmidt’s dad climbing down from a combine. I thought about posting a photograph of the leading man from one of the “Jack Ryan” movies with some faux-clever comment like “you should be looking for Jack Ryan’s résumé, not his face.” Schmidt is fine looking, but do look at his résumé and you’ll get it.
Send money. You’ll feel better on Thanksgiving Day.
