Dear Leader McCarthy;
A Golden Retriever confined for her entire life in a greed-driven "puppy mill" licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) was recently tormented to death by sadists who didn't care enough even to give her a name.
When the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) learned that she'd been tortured to death, they named her Goldie.
Goldie, who should be alive, well, and happy in a loving home today was forced into a life of unspeakable agony by USDA inspectors who witnessed her deteriorating condition for months yet made no effort to save her.
While the USDA licenses commercial dog breeders and is responsible for protecting animals raised in their facilities, Goldie's story is undeniable evidence that the agency isn't doing its job, and Congress must now act.
I urge you to lead Republican support for HR 6100, also known as "Goldie's Act," to amend the Animal Welfare Act, which would compel the USDA to conduct frequent, thorough inspections to protect innocent animals, issue penalties for cruel treatment, shut down facilities if necessary, and inform law enforcement about cases of animal abuse and neglect.
Immanuel Kant said, "We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."
What will your efforts to pass HR 6100 say about your heart?
Regards,
