As some of you might know, I am currently living in a nursing home. I think, as a side note, that the nurses and nursing assistants at these places do not get paid enough, But that is a point for another diary,
As these people take care of me, and can be friendly, I do my best to be as outgoing and friendly as I can be to them. I’ve never understood being mean or angry, especially at people who are specifically caring for you when you cannot care for yourself.
Many of the workers here have tattoos. I was raised in a moderate Jewish family being told that having a tattoo is against our religion, and i took that to heart. I am religious, so having a tattoo for myself is something that I would never do, but as far as other people who am I to hold my self-rules to them, that they must obey? Obviously not.
I never found them appealing or “likeable” nor do I understand their appeal. The “problem” comes up when people with a tattoo ask me what I think of it. I do not want to say what I feel, for the above reasons, but at the same time I do not want to be a dishonest person, so I am at a loss as to what to say.
This, to me, seems one of those questions that you cannot answer in a good way. What happens if a friend is wearing an outfit that you think is icky, but they ask you what you think of it? Are you honest? Probably not… but you’re not sure what to say.
So my question… what do you do in such situations?
