So, does the Second Amendment does mean that everyone can have all the weapons they want? Those who claim that it does usually quote only the second half of the Second Amendment. I will momentarily play along and pretend that the frequently-ignored first half doesn’t exist. Does “right to bear arms” just mean guns? Or does “arms” mean all kinds of weapons? Hey, if the founders had meant guns, they would have written “the right to bear guns”! Since they used the broader word “arms”, should we not presume that they meant any and all “arms” you want, even atomic bombs?
If, however, the gun rights folks oppose the right of private citizens to own atomic bombs, then we all agree that the “right to bear arms” has some limits! The only thing we disagree about is what those limits are.
