A mind is a terrible thing to let run loose. You never know what might pop up in your thoughts….
There’s a possible compromise to offer Republicans on healthcare — they still want to repeal Obamacare after all. Since millions of them refuse to get vaccinated for Covid because reasons, how about vaccine refusal gets them an automatic exemption from the Obamacare requirement that pre-existing conditions can’t be used to deny healthcare coverage? Is it all that different from conservative complaints about having to pick up the bill for people who make poor lifestyle choices?
Republicans are dreadfully concerned about trans children ruining sports, bathrooms, etc. I wonder if California Republicans would support a law banning trans people running for political office, like Caitlin Jenner? After all — don’t they have an unfair advantage because they know how to directly relate to both (or more) sexes? This is as big a problem as poor quality voters.
Biden’s American Jobs Plan has an ambitious scope; Republicans want to limit it to just roads and bridges. How about a compromise? Pass the bill, but states where the Senators vote against it can only get the roads and bridges part — more money for the rest of us. Hey — if they can refuse Federal money to expand Medicaid on a state by state basis, why not?
How about a similar exemption on Climate Change? States whose Senators vote against climate action can forgo Federal relief for climate-related disasters. No more waiting around for FEMA to show up. They can also forgo Federal funding to shore up infrastructure against climate change. No more Federal flood insurance either. Think of the savings to the Federal budget. It would definitely be a blow against Big Government Tyranny.
Some states are rushing to pass laws that no longer require permits, training, or any requirements for gun ownership. Since ‘freedom tools’ will be all over the place, they can give up Federal funding assistance for local law enforcement. Good guys with guns can handle it all. Isn’t that the theory? We could throw in a modest goody — every new gun owner would be entitled to a free “white hat” so they can be easily recognized and asked to help when something goes down.
I think I’ll stop here for now. Who knows where this could lead? We could end up with record levels of schadenfreude if we’re not careful...
What terrible thoughts scare you?
