Welcome to what is the 986th profile here at “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day”, where we’ll be profiling Joanne Wright, a 2020 GOP candidate for California’s 34th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, looking to unseat incumbent Democratic Congressman Jimmy Gomez. She would be the longest of long-shot candidates, given the mere +34 Democratic lean that the district has. A Republican would have to be nuts to think they could win in this distr-
Oh, she’s nuts. To the extent that for a time, she had her Twitter background set to an image of Donald Trump in front of a curtain being drawn back to reveal a giant “Q” symbol, because she’s another Qanon twit who ran for Congress as a Republican in 2020. And that’s not the only conspiracy theory she loves, spreading lies about how Covid-19 was actually unleashed by a bioweapons lab in China that was funded by Bill Gates or furthering the Seth Rich conspiracy theory.
Joanne Wright finished fourth out of five candidates, getting only 7.7% of the vote in spite of being the only Republican on the ballot. We’re not sure if she becomes one of the “perennial candidates” that embarrass themselves year in and year out, or if this was a one-off, but we hope it’s the latter.
