This is exactly what it sounds like. A few days ago I posted a diary about 65,000 people in Milwaukee celebrating the Buck’s championship. Most of them were not wearing masks. And while I still stand by that concern, that it is a very unwise idea to stand shoulder tight with unmasked strangers for hours, even outside, I went about it, in retrospect, incorrectly.
First of all, any team in this country from N.Y. to L.A. would have had the same scene. Any. There is no specific area of this country where people are more likely to be cautious. So this is not a Milwaukee centric issue. I should have been clear on that.
Secondly, I did not make it clear that I do not have an issue with Milwaukee. I am a Cardinals fan. I would like to see them catch the Brewers, but it isn’t personal. Here in Phoenix metro, the crowds are disappointed because they really thought the Suns could win. But at least there are no huge parades.
Third I did not want to detract from my Wisconsin friend’s joy over the Bucks winning. I was trying to separate a well-earned championship from what I viewed to be silly risk taking behavior. I did not do that.
I do wish there would have been more limits on the crowd size because I still feel that this country is not getting the message on Delta.
So I apologize to the fans and citizens of Milwaukee metro for my inconsiderate verbiage which is my fault and my fault alone, and also for not doing a good enough job pointing out that 1. Wisconsin is slightly above average in vaccinations, especially Milwaukee county. 2. Their celebration did not embarrass their city. 3. Under no circumstances should readers have gotten the idea that the Milwaukee metro, as a whole, was more irresponsible than anywhere else would have been, especially Phoenix, where since the Suns have never won, might have been a History Channel million person superspreader event.
Going forward however, I do believe we need to consider that with football season coming up, and 70,000 plus crowds being the norm again, we are going to have to race against time to vaccinate and hopefully people will listen.
There are times when my frustrations come out in writing, and I will learn to do better over time. I am posting this now because I have to go back for more medical attention, so I hope it is ok to do so, but I wanted to make my apology now while I have access to my computer.
In the future I will do better.
