Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has never walked away from asking for big government. In fact, he’s a huge believer in big government. He’s wanted more restrictions on abortion rights. He has used taxpayer dollars to argue for the right of big government to suppress LGBTQ+ individuals living in the sunflower state. He’s been on the constant attack against the legalization of marijuana. This week, all of that changed, as Derek Schmidt came out in full force in favor of ... anarchy?
“No more government control. Respect individual liberties and trust Kansans to make decisions for their families.” Hmm. This seems like a very different standard from where Derek Schmidt has been over the last four years, and Kansas advocates noticed.
Andy Marso, an editor at FPM, a journal held under the American Academy of Family Physicians, points out exactly what is wrong with Schmidt’s statement. AAFP and others have been, of course, strongly pro-science and pro-vaccines.
For Schmidt, though, it is all about elections.
Still, his decision to come out and support a mix between the “I want gay married couples to protect their marijuana plants with guns” platform and a 2014 Bundy government standoff for anarchy is an interesting platform. I have no idea how you would actually govern with it, but it is a philosophy. I guess.
