Who's To Blame?
Looking at the list
Of dead
On any calendar news day
I see
Beheadings and mass shootings
Unvaccinated covids
Skirmishes at borders
A cop's deadly action
Genocide in China
Delayed surgeries
Towns burned, buildings collapsed
A crazed father killing his children
Road rage and planned murders
Drones and rockets
Earthquakes and floods
Old age and suicides
The old standby of hunger
And I have come to this conclusion:
Every country decides
How its citizens die
Our choices matter,
Individually and collectively
The woes of our societies
Are our own responsibilities
From education to elections
No one is such an island
As he or she escapes the blame,
It is up to everyone of us
To make the better change.
