A sower went out to sow, to plant seeds, hoping for a useful crop, a crop that would help the whole community.
The seeds, of course, were seeds of information.
The soil, of course, was the hearts and minds of those who would hear, or read, the information the sower was sending out.
We have so many folks, nowadays,
trying so hard to plant those seeds,
convey that important information.
We have billions of plots of soil, where the information may take root,
and help the community,
or, not.
In 1980 I voted for Ronald Reagan.
In 1984, I voted for Ronald Reagan.
Some years later, the seeds of information,
information about the social safety net,
information about the efforts of Democrats,
their efforts to make life better for most Americans,
it was in those later years,
that the seeds of information about these things,
finally took root in me,
and improved the soil,
in my heart and mind.
Nowadays,
I understand that:
Democrats try to make life better.
Republicans try to stop the Democrats.
My soil will now yield votes for Democrats.
Anyone who is a sower,
needs to sow those seeds,
and improve the soil:
Democrats try to make life better.
Republicans try to stop Democrats.
Who are the sowers of those seeds?
Anyone working on a campaign for any Democrat,
and,
some opinion columnists,
such as, Leonard Pitts, and,
everyone here at Daily Kos.
Many folks who are not certain who they should vote for,
check in at Daily Kos,
read a little at Daily Kos,
looking for reasons to vote for Democrats.
So.
Any time a Democrat loses any election,
federal, state, or local,
the blame is clearly spread out to:
1. the Republican campaign folks, who spread lies.
2. right wing radio and tv and print folks, who spread lies.
3. all Democrats, including us here at Daily Kos, who failed to spread a clear and strong enough message, that Democrats try to make life better, while Republicans try to stop Democrats.
All those actions are not just sowing seeds,
but preparing the soil,
preparing the hearts and minds of the voters.
So the parable is not perfect, because,
sowing seeds, in reality,
is also preparing the soil,
for later seeds that are sown.
4. The actual Democrat saying,
“Vote for me!”
That candidate, is the most recent sower, out to sow.
The candidate can never truly earn anyone’s vote.
The candidate is only sowing that most recent seed.
The condition of the soil,
determines the harvest.
