For all the fighting between the parties on Capitol Hill, it’s almost unheard of for Congress to force its’ colleagues to testify. (With the exception of the Ethics Committee, which exists solely to police fellow House lawmakers.)
If the Select Committee senses that it’s running out of time, or just doesn’t want to deal with the political drama of subpoenaing a member of Congress, it could skip talking to these lawmakers altogether by referring them to the House Ethics Committee.
Meanwhile, Biden had a problem when he tried to pretend that the republicans haven't gone rogue, ignored it, and tried to work with them while their leaders said out loud that they won't work with democrats. Biden must continue to call them out and to get the word out in all the media: Republicans in Congress, in state legislatures, and under the electoral system have tried to stop a free and fair transfer of power and are continuing to try to destroy not just Biden's presidency but our democracy. They then accuse democrats of destroying it instead.
Republicans aren’t conservatives anymore. The radical things that they’re doing make them rebels and some of their voters like the sound of that. Therefore, why not change the democrat’s messaging to the voters? Independents are the majority of voters today because the democrats don’t fight hard enough and the republicans fight dirty! When republicans say they have no platform, aside from their fealty to Trump, the democrats should point out their policies:
1. Climate change is not caused by humans and can’t be fixed by humans, so ignore it and allow oil and gas companies to continue exhaling methane and carbon.
2. Science is wrong. Covid isn’t as serious as they say, masks don’t work well against it, and vaccines can cause more illness than the disease itself.
3. Women who don’t have the means to raise a child, don’t have a supportive partner, are in physical danger from childbirth, are underage, or have been raped should be forced to give birth. Society has no obligation to help their child once it’s born.
4. It’s the right of all citizens to carry guns without common sense gun laws. The Constitutional reference to militias, which have become our National Guard, still means that everybody can have a gun, regardless of the murder rate.
5. Freedom of speech should have no limits even if it’s destructive lies or hate speech.
6. Government regulations limit the freedom of individuals and corporations, which is more important than public safety, accountability, or keeping the peace.
7. Laws are only to be observed if the individual finds them palatable and the republican Congress must continue to say no to any laws from the democrats.
8. Corporations should continue to be allowed to collect hundreds of billions in federal subsidies, bailouts, loan guarantees, and sole-source contracts.
9. Big Pharma, Big Oil, Big Tech, Big Ag, politically charged religions, and the biggest corporations may continue to get tax breaks from the government.
10. CEOs should be allowed to continue to make hundreds of times more income than their workers.
The reason that we must show the public the actual platform of the RNC is because the biggest casualty of the secrecy in their corrupt actions is the public’s trust in democracy. According to the Pew Research Center, in1964, just 29percent of voters believed that government was “run by a few big interests looking out for themselves.” By 2013, 79percent of Americans believed it. A large portion of the American public has become so frustrated and cynical about democracy that they’re willing to believe the blatant lies of a self-described strongman, and are willing to support a political party that no longer believes in democracy.
The history books that are being ignored show that the absence of democracy doesn’t strengthen capitalism. It fuels despotism. Despotism is bad for capitalism. Despots don’t respect property rights. They don’t honor the rule of law. They promote public chaos to promote their personal interests. All of this harms the owners of capital. Despotism also invites civil strife and conflict, which destabilize a society and an economy. It’s time for corporations to join the pro-democracy movement and get solidly behind voting rights. They must actively fight the voter suppression and election subversion in the states and use their lopsidedly large power in American democracy to protect American democracy — and do it soon. Otherwise, we may lose what’s left of it.
