Steve Bannon and other architects and cheerleaders of the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection and attempted coup d’etat of the U.S. government have been running their own media shows for some time now. During the insurrection, Sebastian Gorka—best remembered as the Trump guy that walks around prominently displaying a Nazi collaborator medal—used his time in disgrace to barf up a steady stream of Rush Limbaugh-inspired talk radio on his America First show. The show gets its name from the same PR guy Adolf Hitler relied on in the 1930s and 1940s.
In recent months, Gorka and former Trump lawyer Joseph diGenova, among others, have begun promoting the grand conspiracy theory that the “tourist visit” on the Capitol grounds was actually a deep state, FBI-created, secret operation to get President Joe Biden installed into the White House. This, of course, has been proven by “Big Lie” proponents who have been unable to offer up a single shred of evidence that Donald Trump somehow received thousands, if not millions, more votes than were counted.
But this deep state Jan. 6 black-op theory wasn’t always the fascist party line. No, there’s video to show how cynical these pathological con artists really are.
Media Matters put together a clip of Gorka’s Jan. 6, 2021 show and juxtaposed it with the show’s revisionist version of events as presented 12 months later. It’s the kind of revisionism that only true sociopaths can seamlessly involve themselves in.
Let us start with the day in question: Jan. 6, 2021. As people all around the world watched the surging Stop The Steal rally in Washington, D.C., turn into a riot and then a frightening insurgency, Gorka, in his faux-European-aristocratic accent, waxes what he must feel to be poetic. “Those protesters, those patriots, have taken over Capitol Hill. As we just saw a protester just moments ago say on television, ‘That’s our house!’ It’s not the senators’, it’s not Nancy Pelosi’s, it’s not Chuck Schumer’s.”
His guest, Joseph diGenova—probably fresh off accusing whistleblowers of performing “regicide” on a president and being the same as Abraham Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth—feeling the moment, waxes his own blunt version of poetry, saying, “What is happening is in the finest tradition of revolutionary American thought. This is the beginning of the continuation of the Trump movement.”
Then, of course, as the days went forward and the reality that even the Republican Party couldn’t convince most Americans that what happened on Jan. 6 was not a catastrophic blow to democracy, the mushy-minded conspirators have begun projecting conspiracies all over everyone but themselves. The most lasting red-herring conspiracy “proof” that has been offered up by everything from Sen. Ted Cruz to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, is Trumper-MAGA lover Ray Epps. Epps was all gung-ho during the days and moments leading up to the Jan. 6, Stop the Steal protest.
However, there is no evidence that Epps actually decided to break the law and break into the Capitol building, or pepper spray law enforcement, or any of the other things the many people being arrested and tried for did. As a result, the right-wing-o-sphere has now turned him into a secret FBI informant/FBI agent/agent provocateur for the deep state.
Let’s listen to the exact same brain trust has to say on Jan. 23, 2022. Maybe they have more of that bad fascist refrigerator poetry:
Joseph diGenova: Ray Epps was working for a third party, probably somebody who used to work in Congress on the Intelligence Committee and then reported to the FBI through that third party.
Wait a minute.
Joseph diGenova: On your show, on Jan. 6, 2021, and there we sat, and as soon as we saw what was happening, I said, this is a catastrophic security failure. And what that meant was that the Speaker of the House and the House Sergeant-at-Arms had failed to take steps to defend the Capitol and they did so purposely.
Um. That’s not what you guys said. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to matter. While anti-vaxxers have attempted to gin up the Aldous Huxley Brave New World dystopian fears in the population, it turns out that George Orwell’s 1984 reality of doublespeak, doublethink, newspeak, and memory hole were taking hold of a swath of MAGA-mites.
It’s like a sci-fi horror film magic trick.
