Jennifer Rubin wrote today about Mitch McConnell. She warns that Mitch loves only power, and has no loyalty to America. That explains everything about Mitch: there is nothing else there.
Sadly, that explains many American politicians, esp. the (R) variety:
- My only goal in life is wealth and fame and power
- For this I need to get elected and re-elected, indefinitely
- For this I need lots of political money for TV ads
- I spend all my time looking for political money and thinking about how to trash my opponents with lies
- I make deals with business people to protect their interests in return for political money
- I help other politicians who help me. They can be crooks or morons - that is not important
- Most of my political status and power comes from my party, therefore party before nation or people
Trump's unique feature is that he does all the above openly. He believes everyone is like him, and cannot understand why so many folks hate him.
America's problem is that too many people are like Trump, and many others are too blind to understand that Trump does not care for them or have any respect for them. Jerks and suckers, who vote in droves.
The above sad state of American politics is rooted in deep flaws in the Constitution. Things will have to get much worse before the system gets any serious maintenance. The American people are not going to elect better leaders. They may soon lose the chance to elect anyone.
