MN-Gov Tim Walz served in the National Guard for 24 years. He left to successfully run for Congress (MN-01). That’s a problem, apparently, to the GOP.
If you head over to startribune.com (...some stories are paywalled.) you’ll see this headline in the upper left corner of the screen. Now, the title could have easily read, Walz criticized over departure from Guard, and it would be factually correct. Instead, the Strib does the correct thing, in concise fashion, of providing the context of the accusation. And they do it right below the damn masthead.
An infuriating thing about Republican politicians is not their rank hypocrisy — it’s accepted by their base, indeed it is expected of them by their base. It’s the sniggering glee they take in demonstrating it, while most of the media takes an air of resignation almost like, “Since the two sides say different things, we’ll never the real truth. Alas.”
Here the truth exists. Someone who never served is harping about another politician’s service record. Funny that the criticizing one is a Republican.
