What do Clarence and Virginia Thomas really believe? First, let’s tally up the score for election deniers v. reality: the deniers filed at least 63 lawsuits contesting the results of the 2020 presidential election. The lawsuits covered election processes, vote counting, and certification in at least six states.
The results: Deniers 0, Reality 63.
The cases were described as “frivolous” and “without merit” by a broad consensus of judges and lawyers. An outside observer must conclude that the American judicial system has determined beyond a shadow of doubt that the 2020 election was fair and accurate. One would also have to conclude that anyone who still denies the election must therefore believe that the American Judicial System is completely corrupt.
Now, let’s consider Clarence and Virginia Thomas. Clarence, a Supreme Court justice since 1991, has been married to Ginni for 35 years. Ginni has been a consultant to the Heritage Foundation and has advocated for conservative causes in many venues over the years.
Since the 2020 election she has denied its validity continuously. In testimony before the January 6th Committee she reiterated that belief.
So, here’s my question: How can someone who has served at the pinnacle of the American Judicial System for over 30 years be married for 35 years to someone who believes that the American Judicial System is completely corrupt?
Does Thomas agree with Ginni that the American Judicial System is completely corrupt? Or is his marriage to Ginni Thomas so superficial that they can disagree on the validity of the whole structure that he’s worked to uphold all of his adult life?
Or does it all mean that logic and consistency mean nothing to either one of them?
