Wow, thank you so much, those who have commented, so far. I feel I should add, that I am one of five children, myself. My parents started making babies, in 1948, and quit in 1958. My parents made it look easy. I know a family, here in Wichita, Kansas, a Black family with six children. The grandfather of those children has enough money, to make sure the family does not struggle. But the attitude, of the parents of those six children, is so confident. I am saying, that there are some folks, who make it look easy, and, the only folks who should ever make babies, are those who can truly raise them well. And I am not slamming any such family. But, society as a whole, must step back, and look at the big picture, and persuade enough folks to use enough contraception, to get that growth curve, flat, and then going down, as soon as possible. Thanks again, all of you who have commented. Hugs.
Here is a link to a live world population clock:
www.worldometers.info/…
We just reached 8 billion.
Scroll down, and look at the population in 1955:
That is the year I was born.
In those days, the world did not seem empty. Plenty of people were all over the world. Plenty of people in Missouri, and in Kansas, the places where I grew up.
Who said we needed another 5 plus billion?
Who made that decision?
When I was a teenager, about 1970, I read that there was going to be a serious problem, with overpopulation. I got a vasectomy, in 1977, while I was still a virgin. I have zero children.
A vasectomy takes about ten minutes.
I have lots and lots of nieces and nephews. I can call my sister-in-law, and she will bring her daughters over. They are 5 and 2 years old. And, my neighbors, in the apartment next door, have two small children. I hear them running, back and forth, much of the day. And they are very friendly, when I see them outside. They give me a high five. I have plenty of exposure to children.
Go back to the worldometers site, and scroll back up, and watch the live population change for Japan. About every two minutes, the population of Japan goes down by one. Do you think they are stupid, in Japan? Do you think they are miserable? I am saying, any country, any region, that would simply use enough contraception, that their population would actually go down, they would not become miserable, because of that.
Every time I hear about someone stating the ideal human population, that would be easily sustainable, they say, one or two billion.
Sustainable = one or two billion.
The growth of our numbers is slowing down, but not slowing down, fast enough. When will we get to zero growth, and start going back, towards two billion? When?
Well, I know we all have other things on our minds.
But, this is one of my pet topics, and, since we just reached 8 billion, I thought it might be a good time, to write up a nice Daily Kos diary about it.
Hugs.
