I published a scare essay “What Might Have Been” on Halloween. It assumed that DJT had been president for the last two years, and described a possible scenario for two ongoing significant crises. The essay did not generate much comment at the time, however, now that he has announced his intention to run again, it is a subject worth revisiting in an expanded context.
On the international scene, given Trump’s demonstrated attitude toward Putin and Zelensky, the EU and NATO, and our allies in general, it described a result in which the United States openly supported Russia in its attack on Ukraine and beyond. Of course, he might have just settled for “hands-off” which would also support Russia, just without directly providing them with weapons. Scary as it may seem, I know of nothing that would lead me to believe that Trump would have aggressively supported Ukraine.
Domestically, given his attitude toward the CDC and science in general, how would Trump have handled the multiplying strains of Covid? Maybe we would not be drinking kerosene cocktails as suggested in the original essay, but there are serious questions about what might have transpired under Trump.
However, the real hidden gem in that essay, and in this one, is that DJT was not president during the past two years, Joe Biden was. And that brings me to a point that has been widely overlooked and under-reported about President Biden.
Have you noticed how steady the hand on the wheel has been over the last 24 months? Have you noticed how our allies have been universally steadfast in their support of Ukraine? Have you noticed how CDC and other agencies have been supported in their efforts to control Covid and other outbreaks? The list of decisions, actions, and organizations QUIETLY addressing the needs of the country and the world is quite extensive.
Bottom Line: Have you even noticed how reassuring it is to have a thoughtful, careful, and functioning adult in the White House?
