I have for many years believed that the “commercialization” of Christmas was a bad idea, and I’m not one to step out and go shopping during the Christmas season. In fact now that I have a copy of “The Grinch” I believe he was right with his quote “Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas means a whole lot more”. In fact my wife who is made at me, because I have copied “The Grinch” to one of our storage devices to play any time of the year on our blu-ray player. Since I believe that Christmas means a whole lot more, it would be a waste of time for me to go rushing around looking for the right gift for some-one just because everyone else mayor does.
So what does Christmas mean to me, you may ask. Well for starters it means remembering whose birth we as Christians around the world celebrate this time of the year, and the gift he gave us, it also means family. I’m also one that won’t try forcing my beliefs on others, and that Jesus wasn’t really born in December but more than 8 months earlier than the world believes. As I believe everyone, has a right to believe as they wish, but I for one would like to see people move away from the Christmas season shopping, and consider what “commercialization of Christmas” has done to the world as a whole. Of course this would push all of the buttons of conservatives to the point of trying to banned “The Grinch”, only to have them look like fools.
So, is The Grinch right?
What are your thought on the “commercialization of Christmas” and how do you celebrate the season?
