“Who can I volunteer for to knock on doors?” I have been asked some variation of this question quite often this year. One DKos commenter even told me he was going to change loyalty in the primary because this other candidate was knocking on doors!
In general, my response is the same: Have you checked mobilize.us? Almost all the Democratic campaigns I know of use this Democratic resource to alert other Democrats about their campaign activity. And, more than likely, if a Democratic campaign is canvassing, they will place times and locations here. We did, in some states we knocked on.
There has been a dearth of Democratic field activity since the pandemic. And it is important to remember that we lost a whole presidential cycle of Democratic field organizers and regional directors. Add that to the exploding job market under President Biden, where there are 2 jobs for every unemployed worker, and you begin to see why Democrats have been slow to start canvassing this cycle. Fewer trained, experience field organizers definitely mean fewer canvasses.
But there are still opportunities to knock on doors (or text for campaigns, or phone bank, etc) for Democratic GOTV. Check them out. Believe me, i’ve had campaigns asking where are the volunteers, perhaps more often than people asking where they can volunteer.
Vote. Volunteer. Let’s not leave an ounce of energy left on the table when the polls close on Tuesday. Democrats need our help and i would bet you can find a way to help...
