Now that the red tsunami looks to be a red puddle, it’s time to share the most embarrassing takes from the media figures who spent most of the year doom-saying and concern-trolling Democrats. They were convinced that Democrats were out of touch, sucky at messaging, inept, and on the verge of being walloped by the above-mentioned red tsunami. They were oddly invested in this narrative, too. Very oddly.
We’ll start with Alex Griffing of Mediaite. To summarize: Griffing believed that Democrats need to . . . drum roll please . . . watch Fox News. Why? Because Fox News is a highly rated program, first of all. And second of all, Fox News reports on crime, which is a big issue for voters.
I wish I was making this up.
But wait—there’s more! Griffing on VA’s governor race:
Democrats lost the Virginia gubernatorial race in 2021 based largely on issues like government overreach, school closures, and fury over Critical Race Theory – an issue championed by right-wing media that has since all but evaporated from the political discourse.
Wow. It’s almost as if critical race theory was a wedge issue cooked up by right-wing bad actors.
This does not occur to Griffing. He concludes with this:
One can only hope that if a red wave does come crashing down on top of the Democrats in 2022, the party will begin to do some soul-searching – starting with understanding what is being said on Fox News.
Feel free to add other embarrassing, hilariously wrong takes here. Let’s keep this up!
