Not sure what has happened with Downheah Mississippi who was scheduled this morning. I checked last night to see if he had power and he said yes. He didn’t answer texts this morning.
Last week I said that I would show some photos of an open house we attended Saturday. A Boston couple restored a mansion in eastern Connecticut. This year they had “SIXTY-FOUR” decorated Christmas trees!
On the way, we passed by the Frog Bridge in Willimantic, CT. Four 11-foot copper frog sculptures adorn the bridge. Each was dressed in a red neck scarf for the holidays and sit on a spool of thread as Willimantic is known as “Thread City” as it was a center of textile industry in the the 19th century. Story about why frogs are on the bridge HERE.
My favorite photo was of the couple’s 1860 barn that previous owners had moved to the property from Guilford, CT. The barn contains six chandeliers and recently hosted a wedding!
(Psst — Ida D, we ain’t in Kentucky anymore).
I thought the front upstair’s landing was the most beautiful
Turning around looking in the opposite direction
Every upstairs bedroom had trees. My favorite trees were in the guest room on the left decorated with plastic fruits. The house has nine working fireplaces. This is V from Romania, one of my best friends, who attended with P, Ida D and me.
How about a bathroom with a fireplace?! A reading nook overlooking the kitchen area? I like that the owners are huge gardeners and plant people.
Let’s go downstairs. I struggled to get photos without people in them. This is the dessert table. The owners prepared a full dinner including desserts themselves for all guests.
People came and went but there were up to a hundred there at all times. P, V and I wore masks except to eat or drink. There were people that came down from Boston and up from NYC. Besides the Mac and cheese, I thought the highlight was John, a NYC cabaret performer. John said he was trying to put together a 1960/70s Liza Minnelli look and kept us laughing out loud. (John’s outfit is way too small for me but I may ask to borrow it to squeeze into instead of spandex. Hurry as the sign-up list is below in comments)
The two owners are very down to earth, one having been raised in Bloomington, Indiana (IU) where I use to party some when in my twenties. P and I are two of the four people invited back to their house for a Christmas potluck dinner. We are bringing Brussel sprouts wrapped in bacon, a chocolate almond cake, French wine and of course forced hyacinths for all as they are ready to start being pulled out of darkness.
A walk around the yard this week — periwinkle in bloom, wood, vapor trails, snow, Ida D, birds, sunset glow
P, Ida D and I will attempt a Christmas Eve walk but later as it’s presently only 10 degrees with the high reaching 18. I really enjoy cold brisk walks and also this song “Morning Walk” plus the scenery reminds me very much of where we’ll be. We usually walk on dirt trails instead of paved per Ida D’s choice as they have much more interesting sights and smells.
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS/ HANUKKAH/ HAPPY HOLIDAY to each of you!
