Ooh, PIE! One of my very first diaries here included a pie poll, LOL. Today, let’s explore some savory main-dish pies, starting with that Tex-Mex classic:
Tamale Pie from Simply Mamá Cooks
Unlike Mexican tamales, which are made with masa cornmeal flour, the tamale pie is a Southwestern dish made with a cornmeal mush crust and a tamale-like meat filling. The dish purportedly originated in Texas, and according to John Mariani in "The Dictionary of American Food and Drink," the first mention of the dish in print dates back to 1911.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. What’s For Tea? shows how to make traditional Pork Pie
A pork pie is a meal fit for a king- as fans of pork pies, we should thank King Richard II’s kitchen for the first recorded recipe for a pork pie in 1390. Richard II became King aged 10 in 1377 after his brother Edward of Angoulême died when Richard was three- making him second in line to the throne after his father.

Shepherd’s (aka Cottage) Pie designed by Rachel Cooks with Love
(Shepherd’s Pie uses lamb; Cottage Pie uses beef)
[F]ast forward to the 18th century and we find a dish called ‘cottage pie’ that has been birthed into existence somewhere within the United Kingdom or Ireland. Like many fantastic French classics and other great dishes around the world, it’s thought that cottage pie came about as a way for poorer folk to make use of leftovers. If you were poor, you couldn’t afford to waste any food or money. The Irish peasants lived in cottages, hence the name.
Unused meats and veg were all repurposed into this deliciously warm, filling pie.

Cranberry White Chocolate Tart a delight from Home Cooking Adventure
Wow, this one reminds me of a cranberry tart I used to make from an issue of Gourmet circa mid-1980s. I’m still annoyed that I lost that issue somewhere along the line. But this one looks even better.
This Cranberry White Chocolate Tart [...] is one of the most beautiful, colorful and flavorful tarts I have ever prepared. The tart consists of a pate sablee crust made with almonds, a white chocolate almond crunch, a cranberry orange layer and white chocolate ganache.
