An earlier diary today asked if people would be interested in watching 2023 come in with the crowds in Times Square.
The general consensus was “no friggin’ way.”
So, what ARE you doing tonight to welcome in the New Year?
Our tradition, the last few years, is to go out and have an early dinner, and then to a movie. We’re usually home early enough to watch festivities on TV. No wild parties for us, and I don’t want to be out driving around too late.
We’re going to go see Devotion tonight:
The movie start time is later than I might normally like, starting at 8:45. When we got our tickets yesterday, turns out that we had purchased the only two seats sold in the theater. Wonder why?
I really can’t stand the traditional network offerings on New Year’s Eve. Seriously, they show a bunch of musicians, who I mostly have never heard of, so who cares? Dick Clark’s show? Nope.
For a few years, we watched the celebration on Univision. Despite my Kos handle, I’m an old white guy and don’t speak any Spanish. But who cares? We could follow along with the Spanish-language party and, by golly, the folks on that station were having one truly blast of a good time! It’s fun to watch!
The last couple of years, however, I’ve started watching the CNN coverage, because it’s ungodly fun to watch Anderson Cooper down shots and get shitfaced on live TV. This is really, by far, the best NYE on television.
So, what will you be doing tonight?
Tomorrow morning we’ll get up at a decent hour and watch the New Year’s parade from London. I guess the Rose Parade in Pasadena is being held on Monday instead of New Year’s Day itself.
Whatever you end up doing, Happy New Year!
