I don’t watch the Sunday morning TV talk shows for numerous reasons, but a minor miracle happened and George Stephanopoulos asked Ohio Republican Congressman Dave Joyce about Trump’s latest comment that he was robbed in 2020 and the Constitution needs to be suspended so he can be put back in the White House. And as predicted by any number of people, Congressman Joyce says its no big deal. It’s just crazy talk don’t you know! We are not going to suspend the Constitution, and if Trump is the Republican nominee in 2024, Joyce will support Trump.
Translation: It’s just your crazy Republican Uncle from Thanksgiving saying all kinds of nusto stuff that has to be ignored.
The miracle was the Stephanopoulos asked the question several times of Congressman Joyce:
Joyce, the chair of the Republican Governance Group, a centrist group in the House, was asked by ABC "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos to respond to Trump's post on Saturday on his Truth Social platform. The former president wrongly asserted that the "massive fraud" -- which did not occur -- "allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution."
Joyce initially declined to respond, saying he didn't know what Trump said on social media and that the public wasn't "interested in looking backwards." But Stephanopoulos pressed further, and Joyce ultimately said that Trump's comment should be taken "in context" but that it wouldn't prevent him from supporting Trump if he ends up winning the nomination.
"It's early. I think there's going to be a lot of people in the primary ... [but] I will support whoever the Republican nominee is," Joyce said while noting he didn't think Trump would manage to win the 2024 Republican presidential nomination because there are "a lot of other good quality candidates out there."
"That's a remarkable statement," Stephanopoulos said. "You just said you'd support a candidate who's come out for suspending the Constitution."
Emphasis is mine.
And here is the Crazy Republican Uncle From Thanksgiving Dinner part:
"Well, you know, he says a lot of things," Joyce said, adding, "I can't be really chasing every one of these crazy statements that come from any of these candidates."
"You can't come out against someone who's for suspending the Constitution?" Stephanopoulos pushed back once again.
"He says a lot of things, but that doesn't mean that it's ever going to happen. So you got to [separate] fact from fantasy -- and fantasy is that we're going to suspend the Constitution and go backwards. We're moving forward," Joyce said.
It’s all so harmless! He’s just that way you know! It’s just “fantasy,” so what is the harm in letting him blow off steam?
Last time I checked, my Republican family members (too many to count) did not instigate an insurrection to overthrow the government and keep Donald Trump in power. And they didn’t injure over a hundred cops and kill several people either.
Now, according to ABC News, Joyce is in charge of the Republican Governance Group in the House. Frankly, I didn’t know there was such a group. I know of that useless “Problem Solvers” Group, but I didn’t know that Joyce was in charge of a “centrist group of Republicans” in the House. But call me a skeptic, I don’t think the Republican Governance Group has any fuckin’ mojo, and I think we are doing to see that come next year.
Oh, and the other lies spewed by Joyce is that his group is going to be focused on the ISSUES! You know that inflation and crime stuff! And seeing he is running appropriations, he stated that that there will be major cuts in the federal budget. Naturally, he didn’t say where those cuts would land, at least not yet.
But there you are ladies and gentleman. There is going to be Republican governance coming up! And it will be a focus on the burning issues of the day (Hunter Biden). And your grandparents about to come into some financial sticker shock to boot! And as for Trump, he’s HARMLESS!
