"It really is unconscionable that Russia would have the audacity to put forward a resolution asking the international community to solve a humanitarian crisis that Russia alone created” -Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US envoy to the UN
The Russian resolution to ‘recognize’ the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine, but without acknowledging Russia’s culpability, did not pass. Apparently they couldn’t summon ‘The Nine’.
Notable: China supported this resolution.
South African draft of the same, looking to do pretty much the same, did not get voted upon? With Ukraine stating that the resolution was not requested? Technically quashed?
Western draft was passed with the following results:
140 voting for it, 5 against with only Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Eritrea joining Russia in opposing the measure. There were 38 abstentions, including (and again, notably) China.
