I recently started posting little blurbs in the comments of Facebook posts of The White House and a number of other Democratic people and organizations.
I figured that most of the RWNJ comments have nothing to do with the subject of the posts, so I don’t really care much whether mine do either.
It is strangely satisfying to just drop some debunking into the ether.
I don’t expect to sway many, if any, but I do expect to bring a smile to other liberals who read those posts.
Feel free to copy/paste/post!
Why are economists predicting gas prices will surge to over $5.00 a gallon when only 1% of the oil processed at our refineries comes from Russia? Because gas prices are neither 100% tied to global oil prices NOR to supply-and-demand. Gas companies have been doing this to consumers forever; they use domestic issues and global conflicts as an excuse for price gouging.
Yes, gas prices are getting higher ACROSS THE GLOBE. Don’t forget that commodities like oil are not controllable by any individual government. Europe is going to suffer even more than the US from the current situation.
But you, dear reader, CAN do something about this. We all collectively learned this in the 1970’s and 1980’s, remember?
Some people will have no choice but to drive their vehicles for work or for school. We all can help to drive prices lower for THEM. Supply-and-demand does still occasionally work; remember the 2020 prices at the height of COVID lockdowns? Here’s how the REST of us can help, and keep our own gas costs in check at the same time:
~ Choose public transportation whenever you can.
~ Combine trips; avoid running out multiple times to pick up a few items.
~ Carpool when you can
~ Bicycle short distances; walking is even better. Skip the gym and get out on the streets.
~ Get your vehicle tuned up. Check your tire pressure, change your oil, change your air filter, GET THE JUNK OUT OF YOUR CAR OR TRUCK. (Simple physics – the heavier the load, the more fuel you burn.)
~ When you do have to pay more for gas, say a prayer for Ukraine and her people while you pump it. Be thankful that you can actually buy gas, drive wherever you like, and live free from an unjust war. Slava Ukraini!
