Michael Cogbill is a Union Organizer, Gun Violence Prevention Activist and former Political Action Chair of the Pennsylvania NAACP. He is running for United States Congress in Pennsylvania’s 3rd House District, challenging one of at least 18 incumbent lawmakers with investments and shares in the arms industry. Michael Cogbill says “we are in a 21st century civil and human rights battle, I’m running for Congress to light the way for a new direction to victory”
Michal Cogbill has been a staunch advocate for common sense gun policy, medicare for all and a green new deal for the environment and public education. Michael has committed to fighting for the expansion of social security and focusing on key voting rights provisions, such as Election Day as a holiday and permanent early voting. Michael is also a proponent of a universal income and raising the minimum wage to $25.00 hr by 2030.
Born in North Philadelphia and raised by a single mother, Michael was taught tolerance, compassion and resiliency at an early age. Michael has called for awareness to trans panic violence, stood up for abortion rights and has challenged racist oppressive systems since the 2016 attack on American democracy.
In 2020 during the most consequential election of our lifetime, Michael simultaneously served as acting political director for the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO and Pennsylvania state coordinator under the national NAACP.
Michael currently lives in the Germantown section of PA-3, so far the campaign has received a Moms demand action gun sense candidate recommendation and an endorsement from the fighting machinist of IAMAW local 1776. The primary election is May 17th, 2022.
