Ever since I was a kid, and before, m blood was not welcome in the US. Now I admit he hospitals, due to my many illnesses, have sampled more than enough of it, but if I was a willing donor I would be disallowed.
We are now in a huge blood shortage and we arill ban blood from willing gay men eager to donate.
Trust me, without kind people that do donate I would long ago since been dead with as many surgeries, transfusions, etc., that I have had.
But especially since the early days of “gird” gay blood quickly marked and denied.
Even as time went on and found the ban on willing gay donors to be a bad thing, the ban was kept in place.
Canada had the same ban however shown how much more enlightened the are ads overturned the ban/
At a news conference on Thursday, Mr Trudeau said the change that was long overdue, calling the current approach "discriminatory and wrong".
Many countries instituted similar donation bans during the Aids epidemic of the 1980s. Experts have found that the bans had little effect, since blood is now systematically screened in advance for viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis B and C.
The UK lifted its own three month ban on blood donations from gay men last year. France, Greece, Israel, Hungary, Denmark and Brazil have also recently lifted restrictions.
