One could argue that the core of what could only be described as the “evil” that has corrupted American conservatives and pushed them to embrace fascism is the dishonesty that they’ve incorporated into their essential nature. The Evangelicals of the late 20th and early 21st Century have come to believe that lying in order to achieve their Dominionist aims is Godly, but if couched in the language of their own beliefs, it’s clear to most who see their earthly works that these are foolish people who have been captured by the cult of the other guy:
John 8:44, You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
And as recent events have only further illustrated, CNN concludes:
Telling lies has become the norm for today's Republicans
That's not merely because
Donald Trump remains the dominant GOP figure. The former President lies incessantly, and his aberrant behavior compels fellow Republicans to lie about him.
The problem runs deeper than one man. For a minority party joining blue-collar voters driven by cultural resentment with affluent donors fixed on the bottom line, gaining and wielding power requires dissembling beyond the conventional equivocation that politicians in all parties have always used to amass popular support.
…
In fact, House Republicans have made telling the truth about the election a disqualification.
What is to be done with a culture of people that “when they lie, speak in their native language?”
Somehow cancelling the Children of Lies and all of their influence on our society and our children seems an essential step but still somehow short of what would constitute a cure for what’s eating away at our nation like Cancer.
