As you will recall, the GOP didn’t get around to developing a platform of policy positions for the 2020 election. Basically, their position was “anything that Trump wanted” was OK with them.
Since being on the losing side of the 2020 election, Mitch McConnell, now the Senate’s Minority Leader, infamously said that 100% of his focus is to stop the Biden agenda. Wouldn’t it be most helpful for the citizens of this country if the GOP actually participated in the governing process instead of simply opposing everything that the Democratic party wants to do?
But to do that, you have to actually state out loud what you stand for, something that McConnell, and the rest of the GOP, just can’t seem to enunciate. McConnell even went so far as to state that once the Republicans regain control of the Senate, they will then tell the citizens what they intend to do.
Since the GOP can’t seem to put their policy ideas to paper, I’ll do it for them, based on my observations of what they are actually doing. As the saying goes, “don’t believe what people say; believe what people do.” Of course, any GOP members should feel free to make suggestions if they have better ideas.
- The GOP has unquestioned and undying loyalty to anything that Trump says and does. This simple fact is your key to membership in the GOP as well as your success and advancement in the GOP. Thou must not, at any time and by any means, speak out against the “wannabe” emperor (i.e., Mo Brooks running for Senator in Alabama), even at the sacrifice of your personal dignity, morals, and ethics. Don’t believe the reality you see with your own eyes. And remember, it is really useful to have no shame (i.e., Lindsay Graham).
- The former Confederate states are still talking about the Civil War as their “lost cause.” Similarly, Trump supporters and the GOP must still believe in the new “lost cause” that the 2020 election was somehow stolen from them despite no evidence of wide-spread voter fraud. In fact, “Sleepy Joe” and the Democrats were so sneaky in stealing the election that the GOP can’t figure out how they did it. So they must have stolen it because and because….. Just keep repeating the “Big Lie” of widespread election fraud until more and more people believe it. And please send money to reinstate Trump to the presidency.
- The GOP believes in gerrymandering and voter suppression to tilt the vote in our favor. After all, what good is having control of a state’s legislature if you don’t use it to perpetuate and expand your position.
- The GOP is the party of white supremacists. We believe in the superiority of the white race over people with black skins, yellow skins, redskins (not the football team by that former name), brown skins, etc. And don’t forget that we also exclude members and suspected members of the LGBTQ+ communities.
- The GOP will demonize anyone who disagrees with us; Fauci, Liz Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger come quickly to mind.
- Law enforcement officials who identify as Republicans are free to ignore duly-enacted laws they disagree with.
- The GOP is the anti-vax party, and we don’t mind killing our own voters to make a point. Of course, GOP politicians, Fox News hosts, etc. are all fully vaxxed and boosted. Remember, do as we say, not as we do.
- The GOP doesn’t believe in science and scientists. Rather, we rely on Fox News to understand and tell us what is really happening with Covid and vaccines. However, when hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, injecting bleach, eating chillies, drinking your own urine, etc. don’t work, then we willingly allow our doctors and hospitals to treat us for prolonged periods of time, at great risk to medical personnel, and of course, paid for by the taxpayers.
- And speaking of science, the GOP’s solution to climate change is to deny that it exists. We have no ideas how to solve a problem that doesn’t exist and that doesn’t impact our biggest donors.
- The GOP is the BIG TENT Party, as long as you are white and male, and preferably without critical thinking skills. White women are acceptable in the party as long as they have had or are going to have many white babies. Take that Great Replacement Theory!
- The GOP was in favor of capital investments in the nation’s infrastructure when Trump was president, however these investments are too expensive now that Democrats control the three branches of government. The GOP, however, does want tax cuts for the rich. After all, the rich are our biggest donors.
- While the GOP obstructs the Democrats in all areas, we are more than willing to take credit when the Democrats did something our constituents approve of, even if we personally voted against it.
- The GOP is the party of the religious liberty, as long as your true religion shows no tolerance for atheists, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. Catholics are frowned upon, but can apply to join the GOP. Oh, and the anti-abortion movement is totally about religion. And thanks to Trump and McConnell, we have succeeded in tilting the Supreme Court in our favor for decades to come. Oh, by the way, the GOP doesn’t really care about babies after they are born, as witnessed by our total opposition to paid parental leave, welfare, food assistance programs for the poor, Headstart, and other programs that benefit children.
- The GOP conveniently has short-term memory loss. The deadly insurrection on January 6th, 2021 was really just “legitimate political discourse.” Don’t believe what you saw with your own eyes. After all, the rioters were probably Democrats and antifa in disguise. Despite putting the blame clearly on Trump immediately after the insurrection, GOP leaders are now doing everything in their power to impede the investigation.
- The GOP is totally in favor of the Second Amendment. We believe that all people, regardless of age, gender, criminal records, and mental stability, should have unlimited access to any and all weapons, even weapons used in war. The bigger and bader the better. No training and no license required. We will resist all efforts to impose sensible gun control measures. Mass shootings are an inconvenient aspect of gun rights, but what else can you do? As always, we’ll keep the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers.
- The GOP is totally suspicious of the First Amendment. It has that pesky “establishment” clause about the separation of church and state. The GOP wants our interpretation of religion to be the official religion of the land.
- And while we are on the topic of the First Amendment, there should be no restrictions anywhere on what the GOP can say, even calls for violence, as long as they are directed toward other races, nationalities, religions, creeds, ethnicities, LGBTQ+, and Pro-Choicers.
So, that wraps up my attempt to put on paper the Policy Platform for the Republican Party. I’m sure I have left something out, so I welcome hearing from some Republicans about what else should be on the list.
