Jim Hagedorn, a republican holding the 1st Minnesota congressional district, died on February 8th.
The primaries for the special election was held last Tuesday.
Jeff Ettinger, former CEO of Hormel, easily won the Democratic side.
On the Republican side former state representative and Trump toadie Brad Finstad edged current state representative Jeremy Munson. The margin was only about 400 votes, but that is above the recount trigger and Munson accepted the results.
Ettinger will be a moderate democrat if he wins.
Finstad will be a typical terrible republican if he wins,
Two pro-marijuana candidates will also be on the ballot. They are typically backed by the
republicans as an attempt to syphon votes away from the Democrats.
The special election will be held on August 9. Whereupon campaigning for the fall election
will immediately begin.
