Even before the horrible massacre in Uvalde that took the lives of 19 beautiful, innocent children and two devoted teachers, traumatizing an entire village, and now a nation...Even before the many deadly shootings that have occurred around the nation in the days since then…
My 4 adult daughters and I were reeling with the trauma of the racist Buffalo massacre that left 10 people dead and terrorized an entire city and populous. My daughters are raising children in this world. My beloved grandchildren. The five of us keep in close contact via group text across the country regularly, especially since Covid hit.
We were pouring out our private woes and horror and frustration about the Buffalo shooting. One of my daughters asked if it would be possible to contact the UN — the United Nations — and file a complaint against the USA regarding inhumane treatment and negligence resulting in death and failure to protect its citizens. We all thought it was a great idea, we couldn’t think of a single reason why it wouldn’t work, but we aren’t lawyers. We went to sleep and back to life. Then boom. Another shooting. They didn’t want to get out of bed. They could barely text.
One daughter just texted me this article. She’s the one who had the idea in the first place.

China Urges UN Rights Chief to Look Into School Shootings in US

China has called for the United Nations human rights chief to investigate mass shootings in the US, in an apparent effort to shift the focus from allegations of abuses in its far western Xinjiang region.
The Global Times made the suggestion in an editorial Tuesday, a day after Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a regular briefing in Beijing that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights should produce a report on problems the US faces.
“The US system is equally incapable, or lacks interest, motivation, and courage, to address these problems thoroughly,” said the Communist Party newspaper, which added that US domestic issues have “intensified its external aggression.”
I’m not advocating for China’s angle here. But they have a point. A good one. Our government won’t protect its own citizens. Well, let’s be clear, the Republicans in our government won’t protect them. And we can’t seem to make them. The carnage continues. Somebody has to do something. Perhaps the UN will have the influence to force us to do something to stop, or at least slow, a documented “killer” that continues to take more lives at an ever increasing rate?
Is this thinking out of line? How would this come about? Asking for a friend several folks who is are doing too much weeping and feeling helpless.
