As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Good Morning friends! Welcome to another weekend… We made it! Today I have another off the wall question for you! We have all been through school, whether it be high school, or college. And we have all had that one class or that one professor that changed our lives, that made learning something more than a chore… that made class something worth looking forward to… So my question for you today is.. What class would you retake today if you could, and why?
For me, there are two… I would love to take again the class I took in my freshman year of college, that was dedicated to the events and theories surrounding the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy. That course helped me to see both History, and Politics in an entirely new light. I have never seen my country, or her Government, in the same way since.
The other that I wish I could take again is the course I took in my senior year of college, on Japanese Poetry and Cinema. I learned an awful lot during that course, even despite a large portion of the course material being in visual media that I could not properly appreciate, but the reason that I wish I could take it again is that is was one of the last courses I took that was taught by my friend and mentor, Ronald H. Bayes. Ron is gone now. He died late last year. But the world still burns bright with the knowledge that he passed on to generations of students, and burgeoning writers.
Ron taught me to enjoy poetry from a multitude of cultures. He taught me that I was a writer, and a poet, and that I did not need anyone’s permission or approval to be these things. He made me want to become a teacher, which I did, even if not in the traditional sense. Thank you, my friend… “Horseman, pass by.”
