Unfortunately everyone has a right to read the hate books if they want too. We have free speech, and we can’t hand out free speech to just those we agree with. We have to practice what we preach. So I am not going to fault anyone that sells anything that I know I won’t read. They can read all they want too and as long as I am educated enough to know the truth well, what the hate they say in their literature is on them, not me. Plus I will be sure to educate others as well every chance I get. Especially my children. Education means everything today.
One thing I did do was when my children were young readers was I always knew what they were reading. But I never put any limits on them, I never had too even though the Public Library was a huge part of our lives. They are all well rounded individuals today with careers and not just a job.
With that being said, people are sad or mad at me because of the hate being generated through these hate books, and people want them removed. I said no. That is a bad move in my opinion. Education has told us in the past that when the people are not learning about hate then they are repeating it. You remove the books then they move on to other means of pushing their hate. People don’t know what to expect.
I don’t have a hateful bone in my body, and my children are many cultures. But I don’t understand this wanting to ban hateful books and not one person has wanted to get rid of the hate groups in the United States, or even try to teach in our schools about hate in our schools and at home so our own children don’t repeat the hate when they are grown. It is always “NO!” and we all know education is key.
But that is also two faced. This country has 733 hate groups across the U.S. and people just want to be pissed off because of the hate books on the shelves? What are you going to do about those hate groups? Nothing? I can’t treat them the same as books because those groups allow you to enter if you fit their ideal race, gender, etc. sad. A book you can pick up regardless. But you can also pick up a book that teaches the opposite. At a public Library no one is stopping you from reading anything. A hate group you are invited to join. So everyone practicing hate there wants to be there and teaching others in the group too hate. You are not hearing both sides. I think the books can go either way, and no one can stop you from reading both sides of the story.
Our problem today is consistency too. Yep I mentioned a nasty word. If you say hate is bad then preach it from the rafters. Don’t sugar coat it. Don’t hide it. Don’t do a half-assed job when it comes to teaching bigotry is wrong. Clean it all up and offer classes in school that teach our children not to repeat that part of our history. But our students should know the history we had and we shouldn’t cover it up. So maybe those books should stay? Or we need to make them assessable to certain age groups and taught beside opposite books?
and who will be teaching this stuff? Should we take it out of the hands of Politicians? Let the teachers decide? Ask the Parents? I believe so. Everyone but politicians because they can’t find their way out of a wet paper bag. I would love to see little schools pop up across the US that teach the history of AMERICA that no one else wants to teach. Our real history. Our schools have become too politically one sided.
So, If we ban the books, we must ban the hate groups too? What do you think? What do we do to fix this?
