I just finished watching the primary for the Democratic nominees for the senate in Wisconsin. I am proud to say that I am glad that they are focused on defeating Ron Johnson. That is the primary goal of any Democrat in Wisconsin at this point. With this seat, we can codify Roe and pass meaningful legislation that will make a difference for the next generation. I made a promise I would tell everyone I supported around mid-July, and I am going to do just that.
What I like about Sarah is she shows conviction. She helped with saving the office of the State Treasure office and won. Later she ran for the seat and flipped it from Republican to Democrat. On May 9, She hosted the most significant campaign event not in Milwaukee or Madison but on the banks of the Chippewa River. An area that progressives used to win but have now become out of reach. According to an article in the cap times, Jeff Smith, a State Senator in the area, said that Western Wisconsin has been underrepresented in recent years and has enabled Republicans to seize control of some of these former Democratic Strongholds. As the chairwoman of the board of the public land, she helped lift the gag order on climate change. Her campaign earned the endorsement of Tia Nelson. The daughter of Gaylord Nelson, the former Democratic Governor and founder of Earth Day.
She showed she could hold her own against opponents on the debate stage. She is a fighter. We have seen that with the State Treasures office and other issues. That is why I am voting for Sarah Godlewski on August 9.
I know this will ruffle some feathers, and I understand why. But if you allow me to explain why I prefer Sarah over other candidates.
Alex Lasry: If it weren't for Sarah, I'd be voting for Lasry, but during the debate, he seemed bored or high. Like his responses were rehearsed. No authenticity. He will be a great candidate, but Tammy Baldwin is a fighter, and I want another fighter.
Mandela Barnes - Barnes is a great candidate and a great Lt. Governor, but I'm not ready to support him as a U.S. Senate candidate. I hope he will run for Governor If and when Tony Evers decides to retire or not run for a third term.
Tom Nelson: He started by saying I am the Outagamie County Executive and can win in red Wisconsin. He has endorsements from people who represented purple districts. Jessica King, Nick Milroy, and Chris Danou. Yes, he succeeded in districts that voted Republican but so has Godlewski. So that is not a big sell point for me.
This is to explain why I am voting for Sarah. This is not to degrade any other candidate or dissuade people from voting for Lasry or Barnes if they are the nominee.
