About a day after, I posted the story about County Executive Tom Nelson dropping out. Alex Lasry decided to drop out. He also endorsed Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes. It is now officially a two-person race between State Treasure Sarah Godlewski and the Lieutenant Governor.
Here are the facts. Folks. Sarah Godlewski has no path to the nomination. All the candidates had a great run, and I look forward to supporting them in whatever they decide to do. Let's follow the suit of Tom Nelson and Alex Lasry and help the Lieutenant Governor in his bid for U.S. Senate. This is exactly like when Mayor Pete and Senator Klobuchar dropped to support Biden.
So where does Lasry go? What does his future in politics look like? Lasry has roots in the Obama White House as Chief of Staff to Valerie Jarret. His family owns the Milwaukee Bucks. He built his senate campaign on the notion that he helped construct the bucks arena using progressive values. He created a coalition of almost every official in Milwaukee, including former state Rep. Dana Wachs and former State Party Chair Joe Wineke. His wife is chief of staff at Planned Parenthood. He was very vocal about supporting a woman's right to choose.
Success has shown in other states where liberal billionaires have changed progressive politics in their state. I often look at Colorado and Minnesota as examples where they formed alliances to help take the state governments back. I am hoping that Ben Wikler is in the process of taking inspiration from those models. I would rather have a liberal billionaire heir to the fortune from a major department store than the son of a preacher who did significant irreparable damage to the state.
The choice is clear. We had great Democrats running for U.S. Senate this year. Now it's time to get down to work, help Mandela Barnes get elected, and make sure Sarah Rodriguez is the new Lieutenant Governor.
You have all been great about donating to campaigns. Can you chip in $3-5 bucks? That is cheaper than a 12-pack of pop. Defeating Ron Johnson is worth a 12-pack of pop. Mandela Barnes is the current Lieutenant Governor running to defeat Ron Johnson.
