The FBI and the DOJ have stressed that the search and seizure of those ultra-classified documents from private citizen Trump’s “beautiful home” were unrelated to the January 6 Committee’s work. But it occurs to me that there really may be a connection, though the DOJ may not realize it yet (or may not be willing to admit it yet).
Trump went to extraordinary lengths to try to stay in power, culminating in triggering a violent physical assault on Congress as it was certifying his loss to Joe Biden. His own vice president could have been killed in that effort, a prospect that bothered Trump not at all.
Trump lost that bid to hang on to the presidency. He had no other options left at that point but to pack up and leave. But Trump simply cannot stand to lose. Nor does he stop plotting, however incompetently. I suggest that after the Jan 6 insurrection had to be called off, he decided to take those sensitive documents with him as part of his bid to get back into power.
AND to get revenge. If fear of being called a loser is one of Trump’s driving forces, desire for revenge is another. That possibly compromising material the FBI found about Macron? If Trump chose to release that at the right moment, he would seriously embarrass Joe Biden and grievously damage our relationship with France and probably our other allies. He’s never had any use for them anyway.
The nuclear secrets? Release those at the right moment, and Biden (so he thinks) will look like an incompetent who can’t protect our national security. Trump will then call upon himself as, once again, the only one who can save us.
We’ve been wondering why Trump hasn’t yet sold or otherwise distributed our secrets (or so we hope). This may be why: he was waiting for the right moment for revenge and power.
