Democrats have spent $43M in advertising for right-wing Republicans in six states in the 2022 primaries. In West Michigan the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent half a million dollars on an ad boosting John Gibbs, an election denier, apparently on the theory that he’d be easier to beat than Peter Meijer in the midterms this November.
I don’t agree with Peter Meijer on much. But siphoning off Democratic campaign money to support his opponent is wrong in too many ways:
- Peter Meijer voted to impeach Trump
- He’s smart, knows the facts, and articulates them well
- He’s honest; just the kind of opponent you’d want sitting on the other side of the aisle
- Did I say that spending $43M for your opponents is stupid?? It’s stupid!
- Lastly, the most important reason: the Authoritarians want to destroy democracy. What better way to do it than to create distrust in the institutions that support it? The DCCC has just scored on its own goal.
My contributions to the DCCC will now be redirected to others.
