Oh nothing like watching two wealthy pricks fighting over who pays the bill. Seems someone is leaking to the Washington Post and the Daily Mail about the little fracas going on between Moscow Mitch McConnell and billionaire Peter Thiel. Basically, Moscow Mitch wants Peter Thiel to open up his wallet and come to the rescue of Blake Masters in AZ and J.D. Vance in OH sputtering U.S. Senate races. This is confirmation that Moscow Mitch’s bitching about the “quality” of GOP Senate candidates was actually a clarion call to dark money sources to flood Republican coffers with money, money, money!
Peter Thiel and Mitch McConnell battle over Republican Senate candidates: GOP leader and billionaire PayPal founder lock heads over who will pay the tab for J.D. Vance and Blake Masters' fall campaigns
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and billionaire Republican donor Peter Thiel have locked heads over who will pay the tab for Republican Senate hopefuls J.D. Vance and Blake Masters' fall campaigns.
The Washington Post reported Wednesday that McConnell and Thiel spoke by phone last week, with the Kentucky Republican - as well as the Senate Leadership Fund's head Steven Law - asking the PayPal co-founder to pony up more money.
McConnell’s argument is this: you bought the primaries for these guys, so you should keep shelling out the cash to get them elected in the fall! Peter Thiel essentially said, “Allow me to retort.”
He did so giving Vance and Masters $15 million each, funneling it through their super PACs, staffed by people Thiel trusts, Puck News reported.
Thiel planned to stop his spending there.
'After all, isn't it Mitch McConnell's job to elect G.O.P. nominees?' Puck News' Theodore Schleifer reported on Thiel's thinking.
So Thiel is paying for the “appetizers,” but he will be damned if he will pay for the “entrees.”
This did not sit well with the Satanic Snapping Turtle From Kentucky. Oh no! McConnell told Thiel that the Ohio race was going to be “more expensive.” And Thiel needed to come through for AZ because Moscow Mitch needed to place money on other races. And the icing on this shit cake was that McConnell got his feeling hurt by the nasty things that Masters and Vance were saying about him.
And he expressed dissatisfaction that both Masters and Vance suggested McConnell's time was near done.
Masters said in June he'd like to see Sens Josh Hawley or Tom Cotton replace McConnell.
'I'll tell Mitch this to his face,' Masters said during a debate. 'He's not bad at everything. He's good at judges. He's good at blocking Democrats. You know what he's not good at? Legislating.'
Vance, for his part, called McConnell 'a little out of touch with his base,' backing the idea that it was time for 'new blood.'
The Post reported that during the call, Thiel tried to argue with McConnell that the candidates he backed weren't critical of the longtime GOP Senate leader.
'That's not true at all,' McConnell shot back, according to the Post.
This is not a good look for Republicans. When things are going great for Plutocrats R Us, money should be flowing like showers of gold from Heaven on GOP candidates. Instead, McConnell is on the receiving end of Peter Thiel’s golden shower. And Thiel has told McConnell, “NO.”
I hope that Vance and Masters bankrupt the GOP.
