OK, so this is my second diary on DKos.
I was technically born in North Dakota. The hospital was across the Red River of the North from where my parents lived. My earliest years (up until second grade) were in North Dakota. I lived on the border of Minnesota and North Dakota until after college and have lived in Minnesota (more than half my life at this point) since. Those are my bone fides. I have a deep connection with the state, as much as I sometimes regret it.
Cara Mund is the first and only North Dakota woman to have won the Miss America pageant (2017). Yep, I know that there are going to be a lot of folks here who will dismiss her as being shallow because of it. How about that she also graduated Cum Laude from Harvard Law School, founded North Dakota’s Make-A-Wish foundation (becoming a “Certified Wish Granter”) and many other notable achievements?
She is running as an independent for the sole US house seat. She is pro-choice and her entry into the election recently caused an elbowing out of the Democratic candidate in the race, who was anti-abortion. She’s a very impressive candidate even now, at well under 30 years old.
I did a quick search on DKos for her name and came up as a blank. I can’t say if she’d caucus with the D’s or the R’s. I still think we’d be better to have her on our side.
I look forward to a better writer than me to highlight her. I think that she has a brilliant future and is the best choice we have for North Dakota. Thank you for reading this diary.
