I hear Pelosi/McConnel are the devil. Conservatives or Liberals are the devil. Do we have to stoop to this level?
How many times were you convinced by anything once the yelling and name calling starts? How about we acknowledge the concepts, not stoop to the lowest common denominator and start with recognizing why someone believes something.
Ask them to tell you more.
Acknowledge their passion on the subject.
Note their good intentions.
Present your side of it. Don’t raise your voice.
And don’t shame someone — that doesn’t work either. They will just descend into cognitive dissonance. (and this is toughest one for me because I really enjoy shaming the righteous, even better with their own religious texts)
Note the repercussions of that language and how it might hurt others.
Don’t be baited by the media or screaming websites. Even this one.
Here is just such an opinion piece and note the tone of my reply.
Everyone has an idea of what they want for our citizens and our country.
How about we talk about it? How about we lent someone rant, but then ask them why they are so angry?
Can’t we all just get along? — Dr. Rodney King. (get it?)
I think then everyone can realize the impact of words and language. We can lobby for our position and disagree.
I came across this opinion piece while looking around in my news feed. I really have a problem not with the idea of protecting children by the vehemence in which it is presented. I looked carefully at the law reference and the presenter's website.
I feel that we can debate a policy that will never change in a conservative state like Texas but leave off inflammatory language which will make parents and their kids feel empowered to bully other children who just want to figure out who they are.
No one should be punished for who they are.
The presenter also seems to call for silencing other voices, and the law link concerns me about critical race theory.
If we question scientific theories and health concerns with what is presented, then we can certainly revisit the past and realize that history is written by the victors. This concern is reflected in the education policy.
In 'inherit the wind' the main concern was in examining what people believed. We are at that juncture again. Please read the piece and consider its ideas and presentation. Then please read my comment below the presentation.
